All Hail Megatron 8 cover by khaamar All Hail Megatron 8 cover by khaamar

---

Issue #7 is out and with it the cover for #8.

Casey just posted its amazing line-art [link] so now I'm dumping its colors. It's one of my favorites from him so far, not only by the dark composition but mainly by the emotion carried.

Simply love it. Hoping you too (:

I've got a question. Is it true that they wrote Sides and Sunny differently in the IDW comics? Less like brothers and more as rivals? And that Sides didnt care about Sunny's well being? cause some say yes and some say no.

I don't think they ever approached the matter much. Sideswipe was rather angry when Sunstreaker sacrificed himself during All Hail Megatron though, which might mean they were close.

Beautiful. The crispness of this picture is what I love about All Hail Megatron's style.
Poor Sunstreaker, He was royally messed up, and even more sympathy goes out to Hunter, who was rly just dragged into everything. What it mercy or anger that made Sideswipe pull the plug?

What most bothers me is characters' death. Why, oh why they feel the itch to kill the fav bots? I just don't get it. A drama could be only when somebody dies? Man, that's cheap. Stop faking depths into the book by slaughtering folks we most like, pretending that is necessary to give "historic" or "epic" layers to the storyline. I don’t believe that character development could be pictured only by highlighting death.

Me personally would like to see entertainment: confrontations, hard decisions, heroic struggles or whatever, you know, the fairy tale type; where the good wins and the bad gains their well-deserved faith (and got saved by the end ;) cos I like Megs and Screamer too).

That would be nice, to read their adventures, even in different forms, in different universes - just pls, consider, readers got dizzy by that merry-go-round (in fact: not so merry) of new universes which are needed only because no living soul left to continue the original.

But srsly, what’s wrong with them, regardless of publishers those stories got darker and darker; at last, I’m frightened to take the newest issues because of what I will find in there. I like angst and drama, but I need a release, that everything will be alright, nice and easy – cos if not, what are the struggles for? Aww, this goes twisted as a ghotic tale, with no way out. Do we really need that?

Oh, All Hail THE GODS OF MARKETING, were our beloveds killed for a new toy line again??

That's why I hardly pay attention to anything IDW has been putting out. Why must I beat the living daylights out of my poor mailbox everytime he brings more grief. Sunstreaker's missing. Sunstreakers decaptiated. Now Sunstreaker is dead I guess. Me and Sunstreaker can't take it any more. Just put us out of our misery all ready. Well, I'm off to watch Animated, grins.

I didn't like the original Marvel comics either. Too much humans, first. Second, poor graphics. Some of the plots had a great potential and went flat. Me is a proud owner of the first serie in my native language, and several american issues (and germans). But I've never read the crossover with GI Joe because it pisses me off limitless. I didn't bother to download it either. (moar humans! nooo! I hate TFs being the servants of human race)

Animated doesn't have Sun and Side! Maybe it's a good thing. Look at Percy, his features disturb me. It would take a time I'll get used to it.

BTW, Animated is a very satisfying show till now. Hope the next season will be that quality too.

Yeah the Marvel comics are kinda an eye sore. I own alot of them though because they are the original and Ratchet gets alot of page time. Infact, he cooks hotdogs in one issue. I find this amusing to no end.

Yess that was a rockin' picture! I loved it too.
And there was that Ratchet-Megatron affair, that was something I couldn't get. Oh my poor Ratch.
I had those comics because they were the only things I could get about TFs for a 20 yrs, not counting my crappy VHS records of various and mixed episodes of G1 seasons.

No wonder I love this site, all the amazing arts and authors.

I use to rent crap VHS episodes from Blockbuster. Then they released them on VHS 3 qt at a time and I would buy one and put the other 2 on layaway cus I only got $10 allowance. SO Two weeks later I would buy the next two on layaway. It was a bizarre ritual. Still have the tape too. I'm so not into RatchXMegs. I'm more of a Ratchet X Wheeljack kinda gal myself.

At least you have quite decent records. I used to run home to get taped the next ep. I left school, boys, everything behind to get the bus and tram and bus to fall thru the door, push the button and 'njoy. And replay it 4 times before satisfied. lol. Our VHS recorder was a mess, recording more noise than film. Or refused to start throwing out the casette. Hard moments!

That comic wasn't a RatchxMegs. In the contrary. They killed each other several times. No kidding, I still dunno how the story ended, finally Ratch died or not. Megatron came back, turned to Galvatron and came back again as Megatron. Bah. I've been lost.

I meant the weird fandom MegXRatchet. Somewhere in the comics they get fused together or something and that just scared the living piss outta me! It had to be the freakiest thing Ie ever seen in a tf comic.

I would tape Beast wars obssevivly before the days of dvds. I missed the G1 train and had to jump on board a little later. You really can't tell I didnt do transformers from the get go. Unfortunatley the first time the autobots were rolling out I was trapped inside my mom's womb -__- I was born to late to enjoy it. So I make up for it now!

Your comment definitely caught my attention.

Not going to comment on the cover because you'll soon know if it lies or not. But about character death, I believe we should embrace it the same way we embrace new comers. Unfortunately, in the TF fandom, such isn't well accepted in general (we've Drift as example of that).

As a storyteller myself, I use death lots of time and I don't find the reason to do it to be "because it adds more drama". It does, no doubts there, but I like to give it a symbolic meaning toward something bigger and that's what actually helps on the story's development. I mean, how can you write a story about an orphan without killing his parents first? It's dramatic but must happen. How can we portrait how a group of friends would react to a friend's death if it doesn't happen? Dramatic as well but must happen.

When it comes to TF, except from the mass murder during the 86's movie, there weren't many deaths along the series imo. One of the great things about the TF universe is having endless possibilities, lots yet to be explored. I agree with you there, but I don't think stories should be restrained to laws such as 'no death at all'. I'm against mass-murder though, especially of main characters -- one, two, even three? ok; the entire crew? not okay. but that's my most humble opinion.

And as for me, I love to fear upcoming issues. Love being left in a cliffhanger and spoiled. I think it gives you a lot more thinking(and fun) than if you can easily predict what's yet to come. But, again, that's me.

Thank you for taking time to reply me.
Hope that's a lie. Hope he would be brought back. Whatever. Don’t want him to be dead.

Well. Char's death could be a clue. Who would read crime stories without it? *grins* Drama needs the biggest offer one could give - life. Okies, sometimes living thru could be more tragic, but.

Mass-killing: those happen, all the time. If a plane crashes, there is rarely any survival left, so killing the entire crew wasn't out of place. Not that is a problem.

Being left in a cliffhanger is also a good tool of raising interest, so not that what I’m complaining about.

Me an adult, even when I first met Transformers in 1988 I was one; 18 yrs isn’t an age you couldn’t handle deaths. But.

BUT.

I loved the series because it was meant for kids. I loved Transformers being invincible, suffering as much pain as in a Bud Spencer-movie happens, ready to continue any battle in the next ep, tomorrow at 14.25. :)

The characters were more nicely worked out than I expected for a cartoon, the features were handsome, the plot entertaining even at that time I was more an Asimov-fan and got a crush on novels of S. Lem, Bradbury, Merle and Tolkien just to mention my main interest then. Shape changing cars just gave me the thrills. (ALLLWAYS thought that cars have soul – note, Bradbury said that too, lol.)

NOW consider the killing of the shuttle crew. It was twisted and totally unforeseen in a kids’ movie. I know it makes one mature, to face death of loved folks, no one could avoid that, it is a part of being human – no, part of being a living creature. So as they are living machines, being created means there would be a cease of existence, even if they had a much longer lifespan than could be measured to human standards. Added, they were in war. I know war movies/novels or news from Iraq; cruel reality is that casualties HAPPEN. Therefore, I accept death in a warrior saga, even in a robotic world, in any way of our anthropomorphized view let happen. But it was upsetting that their death wasn’t necessary for the storyline.

I have to admit that those deaths were bringing also some benefit – raising dozens (or hundreds of closet-writers) fan-activists working busily on theories how to save them or revive them in AUs – but it’s just not the same. I love fanfics, I know how likely fan writers torture their victims, how much fun is to write a story so sad that it calls for tissues. Also, there are artists making the most disturbing scenes of death like your cover here which is a great piece – you can see from the comments that it is admired and accepted as a possible faith. *bows head for artistic talent*

What I’m complaining about is that those movies (TFTM or Bay-verse) are stopping the fun. Together with those comics (Marvel or IDW) making it C A N O N what happens in them. Although there are fanfictions where all are kicking n’ alive - they never could make it forgotten that those lovely chars are - OFFICIALLY DEAD.
That bothers me. That finality that the ‘official’ way is killing them. Unnecessary for the storyline, stupid in the progress. (Age long fights without any remaining scars and one got a hit - got down at once or ripped in half ?! Old seasoned war machines? Kiddin’ me?) – but what a printed ‘official’ material says, is always unbeatable and can’t be ignored in the fandom however hard we try. (You know what? I loved that Ratchet and Megatron kept drifting out and back – it made the comic rather immature, like the authors couldn’t decide whether to kill them or keep alive for better selling.)

Sure this last comic, AHM is a great one in art, being as serious as any war-chronicle – but becoming a war chronicle, not a spider/super/ironman-likely entertaining daily read. I wanna read about those old, familiar heroes who I learned to love and hoped to live and flourish for ages like some metal gods. Don’t want a soap opera with newer and newer generations. Would like to see they work out the situation, not being sacrificed even it is highly possible in war or in case of emergency. I keep reading because I love the chars; if they are killing them I just lose my interest.

Thanks for reading so far. Sorry for the late reply but it takes me hours to write a comment like this.

PS: New chars are welcomed – lol, just throw Drift into the mob of slash-loving fans and he will be ‘introduced’ and ‘warmly welcomed’ at once (just like the Jet twins from TFA were). ^^;

Also this offers some comfort - I have seen it somewhere, not quoting precisely but lol:
“Optimus is dead!”
“Oh Primus, it’s the 3rd time this week!”

Sorry, just had to get that out. I'm kinda surprised somebody else hadn't beaten me to it.

But seriously, somebody on the IDW writing staff really has it out for Sunstreaker, don't they?

The fact that Sides' expression can't be seen really tells alot, makes it hard to tell if he's wrestling with anger, grief, anger, relief or all the above all at once. Seeing as how Sides' Spotlight mentioned his feelings on his "brother", he could be dealing with all these feelings and then some.
