"O Menino Triste" or, in english, "the Sad Boy" is a commission from my friend Joćo Mascarenhas. This was one of the works I took longer to accomplish, more than 24 hours, nights almost passed in blank but I was happy with the final result, speacially because he really liked the final version, so I'm glad I satisfied my client ^^. But I also learned many things with this, and I wanna thank Mascarenhas for the opportunity he gave me.
I'm sorry if the full size is little but it's a commission and it's for J.M. only. But I can give you shots of the details:
- Detail 1
- Detail 2
- Detail 3
Of course I never do a work by my own, so I wanna thank ~raya aneki, ~atlantean and ~ultimateice for all the help during the artwork process ;__;
This turned out so great it brings tears to my eyes! xD It's so... PERFECT! The head of the little boy stands out, for the sensation of volume is great there, though the shiny colors there trouble the soft ones around it, making it look like it was made on a different set. But still, the shading here beats the crap out of any other artist, the colors are so sweet to the human eye, it's like the naturally flow from the lineart. In other words, the colors MAKE the drawing, and that's something really hard to achieve!
The clouds are a favourite of mine, I love their cartoony style, and the fog on the bottom also looks pretty natural, as if it really came from the same layer as the clouds.
And the trees! You did a great job on them! They look swell, and you can spot differently-shaded trees around the horizon! It's great!
The only thing I'd suggest now would be the reflection of those trees on the river. I know it's already there, you can spot a little bit on them on the right side of it. However, I think it would look even more realistic if you copied the trees layer and vertically invert it, adding about 93% of transparency and placing it on the river. Try it, see how it looks and make your decision, if you want.
Anyway, this is by far the best example of SUPREME KHAA-NESS, so it's obviously a
Some people thought it was 3D by the thumbnail! Oh I wish... The only thing they teach in my school is crappy 3D good-for-nothing... >>; But oh well, whatever ._. I tried to do it the most cartoonish possible because the original character was cartoon like and Mascaranhas wanted me to keep his original feel, so I tried!... At least
Indeed I've to work on natural backgrounds, coloring AND drawind.. I'm a sucky on that stuff (not only on that XD; but on that too).
NYA! Khaa your artwork is always SOOOOO cool! XD And always worth the wait to see whats next. Everythig is always a new exciting adventure in style I think ^^ This one reminds me of 3d art even though its 2d!
Oh my goodness khaa, this is so beautiful. ;_; It's more than cute or adorable, it is just... plain amazing! You really captured the effect of a child's book illustration, the colors and the style bring me into the picture and make me wish I could see that sky, those trees and that river whenever I looked out the window! That expression, those hands, they're all so sweet and I wish that boy could be happy and fly I just can't believe how much dedication and attention every single aspect of this picture shows, from the colors to the placement of the character and the background. You are such an amazing artist, you know that, and my respect, admiration and love for your art has just increased a lot of points
